A Family Tradition

   Cletus. L. Hobbs founded the

Hobbs Door Company in 1966 with the vision of providing builders and homeowners with quality garage doors and a level of professional service that was unavailable at that time.

Garage door dealers of that era typically carried garage doors as a secondary product to other building materials such as gutters, tile, windows, and even swimming pools while installations were often carried out by carpenters or handymen who had no professional training or experience.

The new company was totally focused on professional garage door services and was well received. By 1968 the company was serving over 100 of the area's finest home builders, with a service area extending from Williamsburg, VA to Ocracoke, NC.

Through several major construction booms in the 1970's and 80's, the company continued to expand, adding commercial overhead and rolling steel products for businesses and commercial builders.

By 1980 The Hobbs Door Company was serving  over 200 home builders, and had an expanded commercial door and gate operator division.

Adapting to growing consumer demand for custom made wood doors, the company developed their own line of wood products marketed under the CedarCraft label with two production facilities located in the Chesapeake and Rockingham County Virginia. Nearly 45 years later, many CedarCraft doors are still in service in the coastal areas of Virginia, and eastern North Carolina.

By the mid-90's the demand for wood doors began to wane as steel and composite doors became increasingly popular. Again adapting to market changes, the company emphasis switched from manufacturing to installations, service, and repair.

A decision was made to modify the company name to Hobbs Door Service to better reflect the new direction and focus of the operation, and promote the prompt and professional service that the Hobbs companies had become known for.

Today, Hobbs Door Service has three locations with the family tradition being carried on by his three sons and a team of time tested door technicians. With a reputation for doing every job right the first time, the company maintains industry leading ratings in customer loyalty and satisfaction.

As we start our next 50 years of serving the public, we remain committed to the three simple goals of our founder:

Better products. Better service. 100% customer satisfaction.

The Hampton Roads, Va branch of Hobbs Door Service is proud to serve Virginia Beach, VA, Chesapeake, VA, Norfolk, VA and Portsmouth, VA. Picture Circa 2007.
In the past, Hobbs Door Co. manufactured custom wood doors for customers in Va. This label was removed from a door that finally needed to be replaced after many years of use on a farm in Virginia Beach, Va.
For years Hobbs Door Service used Jeep J-series trucks to get door into houses built on muddy lots.
